FCC Approves Rules for Spectrum Auction |

Yesterday, the Federal Communications Commission approved its service rules for the upcoming spectrum auction required by the Digital Television and Public Safety (DTV) Act of 2005. These revised rules allow for an "open access" provision that allows customers to use whatever phone an software they choose on one-third of the spectrum. The revised rules also establish a framework for a shared public safety network. View Files

The DTV Act sets a firm deadline of February 17, 2009 for the completing the transition of television signals off of the 700 MHz band at issue, making room for commercial and public safety usage.
