{"id":1253,"date":"2021-05-25T21:46:23","date_gmt":"2021-05-25T21:46:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vi.gov\/covid\/?p=1253"},"modified":"2021-05-26T19:49:39","modified_gmt":"2021-05-26T19:49:39","slug":"governor-bryan-suspends-evictions-increases-taxi-passenger-limit-and-allows-seating-at-bars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vi.gov\/covid\/news-post\/governor-bryan-suspends-evictions-increases-taxi-passenger-limit-and-allows-seating-at-bars\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Bryan Suspends Evictions, Increases Taxi Passenger Limit and Allows Seating at Bars"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS \u2014 Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has issued a 24<sup>th<\/sup> Supplemental Executive Order that eases restrictions put into place because of the COVID-19 pandemic, including suspending some evictions until July 30, raising the passenger limits on taxis and allowing patrons to sit at the bar in restaurants and clubs.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Eviction suspension<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Governor\u2019s new directive amends the restrictions placed on landlord-tenant actions in the 21<sup>st<\/sup> Supplemental Order of January 27, 2021, regarding evictions, which will be suspended until at least July 30, 2021.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To qualify for the eviction suspension, tenants must meet three criteria:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>They are being evicted for financial reasons or non-payment of rental fees.<\/li>\r\n<li>They have been financially impacted by COVID-19.<\/li>\r\n<li>They have a pending Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) Application with the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Taxi passenger limits<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The change to the passenger limits for taxis \u2013 which also includes safaris, taxi vans and limousines \u2013 amends the 22<sup>nd<\/sup> Supplemental Order issued on March 1, 2021, allows those vehicle-for-hire services to raise their passenger limits from 50 percent of permitted capacity to 75 percent of permitted capacity.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Masks must be worn by the driver and all passengers at all times; if all the passengers in the taxicab or safari are of the same family or group, the taxicab or safari may exceed the limitation on capacity.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Restaurants and bars<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The removal of the restriction against restaurant, bar and club patrons sitting at the bar amends the 21<sup>st<\/sup> Supplemental Order allows customers to have a seat at the bar; however, congregating and standing around a bar and the bar counter area still is prohibited.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Alcohol or food can be served <strong><u>only<\/u><\/strong> to patrons who are seated at designated seats at the bar counter.
