{"id":738,"date":"2020-07-31T22:23:53","date_gmt":"2020-07-31T22:23:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vi.gov\/covid\/?p=738"},"modified":"2020-08-02T00:29:45","modified_gmt":"2020-08-02T00:29:45","slug":"governor-bryan-wishes-sam-the-sailor-godspeed-following-his-release-from-schneider-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vi.gov\/covid\/news-post\/governor-bryan-wishes-sam-the-sailor-godspeed-following-his-release-from-schneider-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Bryan Wishes &#8220;Sam the Sailor&#8221; Godspeed Following His Release from Schneider Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS \u2013 Governor Albert Bryan Jr. told \u201cSam the Sailor\u201d he is always welcome in the U.S. Virgin Islands after he was released from Schneider Hospital on Friday following his successful battle against COVID-19.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Rolly Tolentino, 47, was admitted to Schneider Hospital in critical condition on May 7 after being rescued from a freighter that was passing by the Territory.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3935\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Slide1-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Governor Bryan allowed Mr. Tolentino, who was suffering from COVID-19, be admitted to the hospital in the Territory after the vessel was denied entry into Puerto Rico.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Governor dubbed Mr. Tolentino \u201cSam the Sailor\u201d to protect his privacy when he would give updates on \u201cSam\u2019s\u201d condition during COVID-19 press briefings.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Mr. Tolentino is now COVID-free and is being transported back to his home in the Philippines, according to Schneider officials.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>During a bon voyage send-off Friday morning at the hospital, Schneider Interim CEO Dr. Luis Amaro and St. Thomas-St. John-Water Island Administrator Avery Lewis escorted Mr. Tolentino, while hospital staff lined the hallways cheering and applauding.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cIt is great to see our tradition of holding out a welcome to one and all was not in vain,\u201d Governor Bryan said Friday morning. \u201cMuch thanks to our healthcare workers and the staff at Schneider Hospital for nursing our guest back to health.
