{"id":903,"date":"2020-10-07T15:28:40","date_gmt":"2020-10-07T15:28:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vi.gov\/covid\/?p=903"},"modified":"2020-10-08T19:53:37","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T19:53:37","slug":"government-house-clarifies-status-of-evictions-in-the-territory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vi.gov\/covid\/news-post\/government-house-clarifies-status-of-evictions-in-the-territory\/","title":{"rendered":"Government House Clarifies Status of Evictions in the Territory"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS \u2014\u00a0 In response to inquiries from residents about the status of evictions between landlords and renters, Government House would like to clarify what the situation currently is.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Governor Albert Bryan Jr.\u2019s order suspending the provisions of Title 28, Chapter 13 of the V.I. Code, relating to landlord-tenant actions and establishing the right of actions to recover possession of real property, demand for rent or for forceable entry and detainer expired on September 27, 2020. This expiration applies to both residential and commercial tenants.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Separate from the Governor\u2019s executive order, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an order temporarily halting residential evictions to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 on September 4, 2020.
