Three distribution sites will remain available as WAPA rebuilds water inventory and restores pressure across the St. Croix system
U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The Joint Information Center announced that the Bryan-Roach Administration will continue non-potable water distribution in Frederiksted, St. Croix, beginning at 11 a.m. today, Monday, August 31, as part of the Government of the Virgin Islands’ coordinated response to water service interruptions and low water pressure affecting portions of St. Croix.
Non-potable water will be available at the same three locations established Sunday:
- Parking lot adjacent to the Midre Cummings Recreational and Youth Facility
- Reinholdt Jackson Sports Complex
- Former Arthur A. Richards Junior High School campus in Estate White Lady, just south of the Walter I.M. Hodge Pavilion
Each location will be supplied with a 9,000-gallon ground tank, providing a combined 27,000 gallons of non-potable water for public distribution.
Residents should bring their own containers and are limited to 25 gallons per household per day, or five 5-gallon containers, to help ensure the available supply reaches as many affected households as possible.
The Virgin Islands National Guard and Virgin Islands Police Department will maintain a presence at the distribution sites through 8 p.m. to support the safe and orderly operation of the distribution effort.
The continued water distribution is part of a coordinated Government of the Virgin Islands response bringing together territorial agencies and resources to provide immediate assistance to residents while the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority works to stabilize its potable water system.
Water production at WAPA’s Richmond facility resumed Sunday, August 30. Customers may still experience low water pressure or intermittent service as the Authority rebuilds its water inventory and repressurizes the distribution system.
The Administration will continue coordinating resources and assessing conditions to ensure assistance remains available to affected communities as the system recovers.
“This is a coordinated response across the Government of the Virgin Islands to make sure residents have access to water while WAPA works to restore normal service,” Governor Albert Bryan Jr. said. “Water production has resumed, which is an important step, but we recognize that some households may continue to experience low pressure or interruptions as inventory is rebuilt and the system is repressurized. We will continue deploying the resources necessary to support our community through that process.”
The Government of the Virgin Islands continues to coordinate the response through the Joint Information Center and the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with WAPA, the Virgin Islands National Guard, the Virgin Islands Police Department and other government agencies.
Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring official Government House, VITEMA and WAPA communications for updates on water distribution and the restoration of water service.
