Governor Bryan, Acting Commissioner of VIPD Applaud Residents for Incident-free J’ouvert Celebration on St. Thomas

CHARLOTTE AMALIE—Governor Bryan and VIPD acting commissioner Jason Marsh thanked the public for another successful Carnival event on St. Thomas.

“As Acting Commissioner I want to thank the hard-working police officers and the wonderful participants of J’ouvert this morning. Without the cooperation of everyone involved it would not have been possible,” VIPD acting commissioner Jason Marsh said on Thursday. “Everyone had a wonderful time and it was safe.  As Virgin Islanders and visitors alike, this is what we like to see; all getting together and just enjoying our culture. Thank you again and enjoy the rest of Carnival safely.”

Governor Bryan and Lt. Governor Roach would also like to thank the general public and the various support organizations that have made Carnival 2019 in St. Thomas a magical and inclusive experience for everyone.

I can’t thank enough the men and women of the VIPD, our emergency responders and other support organizations for their efforts to ensure we have a safe and fun-filled Carnival,” Governor Bryan said. “While our carnival and festival activities are celebrations of our customs and our culture, they do present a heightened concern for public safety, and I thank all for doing their part to look out for each other, and I want us to continue doing so not only during carnival and festival but every day.”

Carnival activities and celebrations on St. Thomas will conclude on Sunday evening, May 5th, 2019 with a fireworks finale in the Charlotte Amalie harbor. The Carnival celebration on St. Thomas was extended by one day due to a delay in getting the fireworks in the Territory, according to  Carnival Committee officials. The last night of the Carnival Village on island will be Sunday, May 5th, 2019.

With Lt. Governor Tregenza Roach out of the Territory attending the United Nations Caribbean Regional Seminar in Grenada, Governor Bryan extends words of encouragement as the Children’s Parade and Adult’s Parade on St. Thomas prepare to unfold. The Governor is wishing all residents and visitors a safe and fun-filled Carnival season.
