CHRISTIANSTED—To better connect residents, visitors, and organizations operating in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Government House has compiled a list of active social media pages of local government agencies, departments, and several semi-autonomous agencies in the Territory. Social media platforms are low-cost and effective communication tools that government agencies at the local, state and national level are using to deliver timely information and updates to constituents.
“Connecting residents on each island to available government programs, services, and Territory-wide updates is a great step towards modernizing the communications expectations of various departments in the Virgin Islands,” Governor Bryan said. “The Department of Education also boasts more than 8,000 followers on its official Facebook page and has over a dozen individual social pages for public schools in both districts.”
With the launch of a government transparency website in April, the Bryan/Roach administration is taking steps to transform public perception of government and maximize awareness of agency goals and their available services. The list, provided by Government House, includes active social pages for over 30 essential government agencies and includes semi-autonomous agencies operating in the Territory.
