Governor Albert Bryan Jr. Proclaims November as a Month of Awareness and Recognition in the U.S. Virgin Islands

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has declared November a significant month for various vital causes that touch the lives of many Virgin Islanders. This month is designated as National Diabetes Month, emphasizing the importance of education and testing for diabetes, a leading health concern noted by its status as the eighth leading cause of death in the United States in 2021.

In addition, November is recognized as National Adoption Month, allowing communities to celebrate families that have opened their hearts to children and teens in need. This month highlights the crucial role of agencies and advocates in facilitating meaningful adoptions.

Furthermore, Governor Bryan calls upon the community to recognize National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, encouraging individuals to learn about the disease affecting many Virgin Islanders and to support those living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. The Governor also proclaims November as National Entrepreneurship Month, a celebration of the entrepreneurs contributing to economic growth and job creation within the territory.

November honors National Family Caregivers Month, recognizing caregivers’ essential contributions to our society by caring for the most vulnerable among us. The VI Family Caregiver Support Program continues to provide vital resources to assist caregivers in their important work.

In tribute to the region’s rich history, November is also declared Virgin Islands Indigenous Native American Heritage Month, honoring the contributions and cultural heritage of Indigenous Native American peoples. Additionally, the month celebrates D. Hamilton Jackson Month, recognizing the legacy of a noted labor leader from St. Croix who fought for social justice and equality.

Governor Bryan has also proclaimed November as Virgin Islands Recycles Month, reinforcing the commitment to environmental protection through responsible waste management. This month serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding public health and the environment.

Moreover, November is recognized as Survivors of Homicide Victims Awareness Month, aiming to provide support and compassion to those mourning lost loved ones. Governor Bryan has also declared Military Families Month to honor the sacrifices made by service members and their families in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Additional observances throughout November include Notary Public Proclamation Day on November 7, Veterans Day on November 11, American Education Week from November 13 to November 17, National Apprenticeship Week from November 17 to November 23, and Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week from November 18 to November 26.

In keeping with a cherished local tradition, November 25 is proclaimed Meatless Day, honoring Dada Vaswani’s legacy of promoting a vegetarian lifestyle within the East Indian community of the Virgin Islands.

Through these proclamations, Governor Bryan encourages all Virgin Islanders to engage with these observances, fostering awareness, compassion, and community support throughout the month of November.
