Governor wishes the party’s nominees well in the general election and calls for unity

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. issued the following statement Sunday on the results of Saturday’s Democratic Party primary election:

“I congratulate the candidates who earned the support of Democratic voters in Saturday’s primary election and will carry our party’s banner into the general election. Their victories reflect the confidence placed in them by members of the Democratic Party, and I wish each of our nominees success in the campaign ahead.

“I also thank every Democratic candidate who stepped forward to serve. A strong party depends on people willing to present their ideas, engage voters and offer a vision for the future. Each candidate strengthened our democratic process and contributed to an important conversation about the direction of our party and our Virgin Islands.

“To those who were not successful, I encourage you to remain active in the Democratic Party and in our community. The result of one election does not diminish the value of your voice, your advocacy or your ability to serve. Our party and our territory continue to need your experience, ideas and commitment.

“Primary elections allow Democrats to debate our differences, sharpen our priorities and select the candidates we believe are best prepared to lead. With that process complete, we must come together around our shared values and support our nominees as they move toward the general election.

“I thank the Democratic voters who participated, the party leaders and campaign volunteers who supported the process, and the election officials and poll workers who helped ensure that every voter had the opportunity to be heard.

“As the general election approaches, I encourage Democrats across the territory to remain engaged, united and focused on advancing responsible, compassionate and effective leadership for the people of the Virgin Islands.”
