Governor Mapp signs off on $243 million HUD recovery grant

THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – Governor Kenneth Mapp and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Deputy Secretary Pamela Hughes Patenaude have announced the formal execution of a$243 million grant to help Virgin Islanders recover from Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The signing of this agreement now paves the way to speed recovery dollars needed to restore damaged and destroyed homes, businesses and infrastructure. This includes the $33 million Governor Mapp secured in economic development funding to upgrade our marine ports and to provide training in the construction trades so more Virgin Islanders can participate in the Territory’s rebuild.

Governor Mapp, who also met with U.S. Energy Department Secretary Rick Perry and other officials while in Washington, returns to the Territory on Friday.
