Administration extends temporary distribution operation through September 7 as WAPA continues stabilizing St. Croix water system

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The Government of the Virgin Islands Joint Information Center announces that the Administration will conclude operations at the temporary non-potable water distribution sites established in Frederiksted following distribution on Monday, September 7, as conditions within the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s water system continue to improve.

The distribution sites at the Reinholdt “Rookie” Jackson Sports Complex and the former Arthur A. Richards Junior High School campus in Estate White Lady, just south of the Walter I.M. Hodge Pavilion, will remain available through Monday, September 7.

The distribution location at the Frederiksted parking lot adjacent to the Midre A. Cummings Park will also remain available through Monday, September 7, before the Administration concludes the temporary water distribution operation.

The sites were established as a precautionary measure to ensure residents in Frederiksted and surrounding communities had access to non-potable water while WAPA worked to restore adequate water inventory and pressure within its St. Croix distribution system.

With water production restored and the Authority continuing to rebuild system inventory and stabilize pressure, the Administration is now preparing to wind down the temporary distribution effort in a measured manner while maintaining all three locations through Monday for residents who may still require assistance.

The Administration thanks residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the response and recognizes the agencies, emergency personnel, private water haulers and other partners who supported the coordinated effort.

Residents should continue to monitor official communications from the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority, VITEMA and the Government of the Virgin Islands for additional updates regarding water service.
