Water inventory rises from 31 to 38 percent; service improving across West End as boil water advisory remains in effect out of an abundance of caution
U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The Government of the Virgin Islands Joint Information Center reports that the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority continues to make considerable progress in restoring normal water service conditions on St. Croix, with islandwide water inventory increasing from approximately 31 percent to 38 percent over the weekend.
WAPA continues to increase potable water production to rebuild system inventory and meet higher demand associated with the prolonged drought conditions affecting the Territory.
As inventory increases and pressure continues to improve throughout the distribution system, customers in higher-elevation areas of Frederiksted who previously experienced little or no water service should begin seeing continued improvement.
Some customers, however, may still experience low water pressure or intermittent service, particularly in higher-elevation areas of St. Croix’s West End, including North Carlton Road, Estate Two Williams, Mars Hill and portions of La Grange.
The Administration and WAPA continue to monitor system conditions as additional water is produced and distributed throughout the network.
Boil Water Advisory Remains in Effect
WAPA’s Boil Water Advisory remains in effect out of an abundance of caution as the Authority continues rebuilding water inventory, restoring optimal pressure throughout the distribution system and conducting water-quality testing and monitoring.
Customers should continue to avoid consuming water from the distribution system without boiling it first. Water intended for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or similar household uses should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute and allowed to cool before use. Bottled water may also be used as an alternative.
WAPA will notify the public when testing and system conditions support lifting the advisory.
St. Croix Standpipe Remains Available
The St. Croix potable water standpipe will remain available to customers Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m.
The standpipe will remain closed on weekends to allow WAPA additional time to replenish water inventory within the system.
Residents Asked to Continue Conserving Water
While conditions continue to improve, residents are encouraged to conserve water wherever possible to support the recovery of the system.
Customers are asked to postpone nonessential water use, including vehicle washing, pressure washing and lawn watering, and to avoid allowing water to run unnecessarily.

The Joint Information Center will continue providing updates as WAPA restores water inventory and system pressure across St. Croix.
