Main Street Revitalization Update – Road Closures and Detours Scheduled This Week

CHARLOTTE AMALIE—Work on the Main Street Revitalization Project continues this week and will cause a few road closures and detours. Starting Monday, May 6, nightly road closures on Main St. will resume from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and will continue until further notice.

On Tuesday, May 7, the department will begin the installation of pipe culverts on Garden St. to improve drainage in the area. To facilitate this road work, detours in the area will be required.

BUNKER HILL/GARDEN STREET DETOUR (see attached map)

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

· Traffic will be limited to one-lane, heading south from Garden Street and Bunker Hill.

· No right turns will be allowed going north into Garden Street and Bunker Hill from Norre Gade, except for access to Government Hill.

· All traffic going to Garden Street and Bunker Hill from Norre Gade, will be detoured to continue west on Main Street, take a right on Nye Gade (Little Switzerland), turn right on Back Street, then turn left on Garden Street and proceed north.

From 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

· Due to nightly closures on Main Street, the detour to access to Garden Street will differ.

· All traffic must access Guttets Gade (Pizza Hut) from Veterans Drive (Waterfront), continue north and turn right on Back Street, turn left on Garden Street and proceed north.

· Access to Main Street from the Post Office Plaza also will be closed.

The Department of Public Works will continue to keep the community updated as this project progresses. The community’s patience is greatly appreciated as DPW works to improve road conditions throughout the territory.
