Statement from Governor Albert Bryan Jr. on the Passing of Dr. Orville E. Kean

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – Governor Albert Bryan Jr. issued the following statement Monday, mourning the passing of Dr. Orville E. Kean:

“It is with deep sorrow that I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Dr. Orville Kean, whose distinguished leadership at the University of the Virgin Islands marked an extraordinary era in education and public service in the Territory.

As the longest-serving president of the University of the Virgin Islands, Dr. Kean left an indelible mark on the institution and the lives of countless students and educators. His visionary leadership strengthened UVI’s academic excellence and enriched the Territory.

A beloved son of the soil, Dr. Kean’s life story stands as a beacon of opportunity and empowerment for our community. He will be remembered as an advocate for education, a mentor to many, and a passionate believer in the potential of Virgin Islanders.

May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may we honor his memory by continuing his work to ensure a brighter future for the Virgin Islands.”
