Former Arthur A. Richards Junior High School campus added to Sunday evening distribution as Administration expands emergency water response
U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The Bryan-Roach Administration has added a third water distribution site in Frederiksted as Governor Albert Bryan Jr. continues deploying emergency resources to assist St. Croix residents experiencing low water pressure and water service interruptions.
Beginning this evening, Sunday, August 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., non-potable water will now be available at the following three locations:
- The parking lot adjacent to the Midre Almeric Cummings Recreational and Youth Facility
- Reinholdt Jackson Sports Complex
- The former Arthur A. Richards Junior High School campus in Estate White Lady, just south of the Walter I.M. Hodge Pavilion
Residents are urged to bring their own containers and will be limited to 25 gallons per resident per day, equivalent to five 5-gallon containers.
The distributed water is non-potable and should not be used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or other forms of consumption.
The additional site is being activated as part of Governor Bryan’s emergency response to water service challenges affecting portions of St. Croix. Prolonged drought conditions have reduced available water inventory, while the recent Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority wastewater force main rupture prompted the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority to temporarily suspend reverse-osmosis water production at its Richmond facility as a precaution while awaiting water-quality testing.
Those conditions, combined with reduced pumping through WAPA’s distribution system, have contributed to low pressure and service interruptions in several communities.
Governor Bryan authorized private water haulers Sunday to provide immediate relief while WAPA works to restore production, rebuild water inventory and stabilize the distribution system.
The Administration will continue monitoring conditions and stands ready to expand or adjust distribution operations as necessary.
Residents are encouraged to conserve potable water and continue monitoring official updates from Government House, the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency and the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority.
The Joint Information Center will provide additional updates as water distribution and restoration efforts continue.
