U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has issued a series of proclamations recognizing the month of May 2026 as a time of reflection, awareness, and appreciation across the Territory, highlighting critical public health issues, honoring dedicated professionals, and celebrating the culture and heritage of the Virgin Islands.

In recognizing the importance of public health and early intervention, Governor Bryan has proclaimed May as “Virgin Islands Stroke Awareness Month,” emphasizing that early recognition of stroke symptoms and timely medical care can significantly improve survival rates, recovery outcomes, and the prevention of recurrence. He has also declared May 2026 as “Mental Health Awareness Month,” acknowledging that mental health disorders continue to affect residents across all communities, with the Virgin Islands Department of Health hosting events Territory-wide to support recovery and provide resources. Additionally, May has been designated as “Older Americans Month,” recognizing the contributions of seniors and the continued efforts to support and protect them.

The Governor’s proclamations for May 2026 include:

  • May 1, 2026 — “Law Day” in the U.S. Virgin Islands, recognizing the importance of the rule of law and reaffirming a commitment to justice, accountability, and civic responsibility.
  • May 3–9, 2026 — “National Correctional Officers and Employees’ Week,” honoring the dedicated professionals within the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections.
  • May 4–8, 2026 — “National Teacher Appreciation Week,” with May 5, 2026 observed as “National Teachers’ Day,” celebrating educators across the Territory.
  • May 6–12, 2026 — “National and Territorial Nurses Week,” recognizing nurses for their essential role in providing safe, high-quality, and cost-effective health care.
  • May 7, 2026 — “National Day of Prayer,” with Governor Bryan calling upon Virgin Islanders to observe the day in prayer and reflection.
