The Virgin Islands Agriculture and Food Fair Planning Committee is now accepting applications from farmers who are interested in being considered for the 2018 Crop Farmer of the Year. The deadline for applications is May 4, 2018.
“Despite the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, farmers have made significant strides in their recovery,” said Department of Agriculture Commissioner Carlos Robles. “I am impressed and inspired by the resilience of the Territory’s farmers.”
Farmers can call Errol Chichester at (340) 778-0997 to register for the coveted honor of Farmer of the Year. The 2018 Agfair will be held from May 26-28, 2018 at the Rudolph Schulterbrandt Agricultural Complex in Estate Lower Love.
Additionally, farmers who wish to take part in the Agfair must secure their spaces before April 30, 2018. Applications are available at the Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture.
“Farmers are up and running and we expect to have lots of agricultural products available,” said Commissioner Robles.
Persons who wish to volunteer can call Volunteer Coordinator Denise Lewis at 340-690-8327.
