U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has issued a series of official proclamations recognizing a diverse array of commemorative observances throughout the month of June 2025. These proclamations highlight public health awareness, cultural heritage, environmental stewardship, and the contributions of dedicated citizens and communities across the Territory.
Amateur Radio Week
Governor Bryan has proclaimed the week of June 23-29, 2025, as “Amateur Radio Week” in the U.S. Virgin Islands. With over 150 amateur radio operators—commonly known as “HAMS”—in the Territory, the proclamation honors their critical volunteer work supporting emergency communications in partnership with VITEMA under the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and Auxiliary Communications (AUXCOMM).
National HIV Testing Day
Recognizing the importance of education, early detection, and compassion in the fight against HIV, Governor Bryan has proclaimed Friday, June 27, 2025, as “National HIV Testing Day.” The proclamation emphasizes the role of testing in reducing stigma and improving outcomes for those affected by the virus.
Men’s Health Month
The Governor has declared the month of June 2025 as “Men’s Health Month” to encourage preventive health practices, screenings, and healthy lifestyles. The proclamation urges men throughout the Virgin Islands to take active roles in their health and to serve as positive role models within their families and communities.
National Caribbean-American Heritage Month
Governor Bryan has proclaimed June 2025 as “National Caribbean-American Heritage Month” in the Virgin Islands. The observance honors the rich history, contributions, and cultural legacy of people of Caribbean ancestry, including the heroic acts of leaders such as Moses “General Buddhoe” Gottlieb and Admiral Martin King.
National Fishing and Boating Week
From June 1–8, 2025, the Territory will observe “National Fishing and Boating Week.” The Governor’s proclamation acknowledges the vital role of both commercial and recreational fishing industries and celebrates the Virgin Islands’ deep-rooted maritime heritage.
National Ocean Month
Governor Bryan has also proclaimed the entire month of June 2025 as “National Ocean Month,” recognizing the strategic maritime importance of the Virgin Islands and its position along key global sea routes. The observance calls attention to ocean conservation and the importance of protecting marine ecosystems.
LGBTQIA+ Pride Month
In recognition of the contributions and rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, Governor Bryan has proclaimed June 2025 as “LGBTQIA+ Pride Month.” The proclamation encourages all Virgin Islanders to stand against discrimination and to support dignity, inclusion, and equality for all.
Virgin Islands Freedom Week
Finally, the Governor has proclaimed the week of June 26 through July 3, 2025, as “Virgin Islands Freedom Week.” This observance honors the Territory’s long and ongoing struggle for liberation, self-determination, and cultural identity. It serves as a time to reflect on the resilience and resistance of Caribbean ancestors who fought tirelessly for justice and freedom.
Governor Bryan encourages all Virgin Islanders to participate in the various activities and reflections associated with these observances and to recognize the enduring values of unity, health, equality, and cultural pride throughout the month of June.
